The Psychology Board of Australia has today published revised Guidelines for supervisors and revised Guidelines for supervisor training providers. The revised guidelines will commence on 1 August 2018.
The revised documents are published in advance of the commencement date to ensure that Board-approved supervisors and individuals intending to become supervisors have plenty of time to review them before they come into effect.
The main changes to be aware of relate to the simplification of supervisor approval categories, such that all new Board-approved supervisors will need to hold general registration for three years. The Board has published a fact sheet to help explain the changes which can be seen in the table below.
Psychologists currently undertaking full training who intend to become a Board-approved supervisor prior to holding general registration for three years should be aware of the Board’s transition arrangements. These transition arrangements are detailed in the fact sheet.
Supervisors of higher degree placements should also refer to the fact sheet for further information on area of practice endorsement requirements.
Supervisors training providers and those intending to apply to the Board to become a supervisor training provider should review the revised Guidelines for supervisor training providers.
The advance copies of these guidelines can be found in the table below. On 1 August 2018 these will replace the current supervision guidelines and revocation policies.
