The Psychology Board of Australia (the Board) has published advance copies of the revised Registration standard: Area of practice endorsements and revised Guidelines on area of practice endorsements.
The new registration standard, approved by the Ministerial Council, and new guidelines will take effect from 1 December 2019. Advance copies are available below along with a fact sheet that summarises the changes. Key changes include the recognition of approved bridging qualifications and a suite of changes to reduce administrative requirements for registrars and supervisors.
This review was part of the Board’s regular scheduled reviews of its registration standards and guidelines and was targeted in scope. The Board conducted public consultation in early 2016 and again in late 2018. Both consultation papers, public submissions, and a consultation report summarising stakeholder feedback and Board considerations is available on the past consultations webpage. Thank you to all individuals and organisations who provided submissions.
Many submissions raised issues that were outside the scope of this review but are relevant to the Board’s education and training reform agenda. These issues are being considered as part of this comprehensive reform, which is aiming to ensure general registration and area of practice endorsement are being used effectively to promote safe practice and community access to effective psychological services. You can read more about this reform agenda on the professional practice issues page, which the Board will keep updated as work progresses.
